Evening at Mono Lake always brings out the photographers. This evening was no exception, but many had started to drift away. The clouds were too low over the Sierra we all thought. There would be no color this evening we all thought. But for those who stayed, the fire of the setting sun outlined the mountains. Not quite what we had hoped for but worth the wait.
You can see more skies from around the world at SkyWatch Friday, hosted for us by Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Fishing Guy and Sylvia.

No expectations should be needed. That's a beautiful sunset. I like the way the fiery red outlines the mountains.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. And you can never tell about a sunset. Sometimes the flash of color long after the sun has disappeared is the best of all.
ReplyDeleteWhat a dramatic setting! I love how the setting sun outlines the mountains.
ReplyDeleteWhat a spooky shot in a spectacular setting. If there is one thing I've learned from living in the Southwest, it's that the sky show at sunset isn't over until it's really dark. Then, of course, another kind of sky show begins.
ReplyDeleteHappy Skywatching!
That is beautiful! Great capture!
ReplyDeleteA surreal capture, Martha. Success comes to those that wait (is this something my Mother used to say?). Hope you're enjoying the weather where you are.
ReplyDeleteNot what you hoped for?????????? You got to be kidding! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteA simply stunning sky. Thanks for sharing it with us.

ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful setting. Happy SWF!
ReplyDeleteThe beautiful contrasts between the blue of the mountains and the fiery sunset clouds caught my eye and I had to come and see how gorgeous the photo is.
ReplyDeleteIt looks almost lunar. The colours are just amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a spectacular place! Beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteWhen you get a surprise, when it's least expected, that's when it's super special. This is a wonderful composition of a very special sky.

Just gorgeous colours, so beautiful~ Mary
ReplyDeleteStunning! Your patience was well-rewarded. There's probably a good lesson here -- maybe to enjoy what comes our way rather than having too many expectations of what is supposed to be?.
ReplyDeleteOh my, that's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's terrific - well worth waiting for. Sometimes the best colors come a bit after the sun sets. You just have to be patient! Clearly you were!
ReplyDeleteWould love to be there in the beautiful landscape!
ReplyDeleteGreat color over the mountain! Wonderful photo Martha!
Wish you a happy week:-)
