Yosemite Sky

Some high clouds captured from the base of Bridal Veil Falls in Yosemite.

SkyWatch Friday is hosted for us by Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Fishing Guy and Sylvia.  Click the link to find more wonderful skies.
I'm home from a busy two weeks of travel in the Sierra.  Now I must sort through more than 600 shots of Mammoth Lakes, the area around Sonora Pass, Bodie State Park, Mono Lake and Yosemite.  I hope in all of that there will be something  worthwhile to share with you.

Evening at the Lake

I've not gone fishing but I'm off looking for more photos in an internet free zone.

Skies Over Hope Valley

We took a side trip on the way home from our cabin a few weeks ago.  The road heads up a valley south of Lake Tahoe to a gem of a lake called Blue Lake.  We liked it there so much that we hope to go camping there next year.

Shining Water

A breezey day and the ripples formed on the lake catch the early morning sun.  I stand, watching the ever changing surface of the water.

UFO?

The Eastern Sierra is a great place to see lenticular clouds.  After a night of high winds the sky had filled with lots of interesting cloud formations.

Dog Lake

A couple of weeks ago I erroneously identified this lovely lake as Blue Lake.  It is Dog Lake, the trail to this beauty starts at the Lembert Dome trail head in Tuolomne Meadows.
It was a warm day so I wasn't too surprised to see people floating in the lake.  I wouldn't have minded jumping in myself!

Watching Pika

Che Che, Pika calls
On rocky slopes he watches
Hiding in plain sight
There he goes, he's on the move.
What's this? Is it good to eat?
Smells good.
Tastes good too.
That's enough, Time to go.
I heard the Pika call while hiking but wasn't prepared to take photos, he is small and shy and I didn't have my telephoto lens.  I returned the next day, prepared to sit and watch.  This furry little creature is not a rodent as many think but related to rabbits and hares; no long tail like a mouse or rat, just a little puff of fur.
I had a good day and I hope you enjoy the results as much as I did.

Sunset at Mono Lake

Evening at Mono Lake always brings out the photographers.  This evening was no exception, but many had started to drift away.  The clouds were too low over the Sierra we all thought.  There would be no color this evening we all thought.  But for those who stayed,  the fire of the setting sun outlined the mountains.  Not quite what we had hoped for but worth the wait.
