We thought we'd check out Mono Lake and see if there were any unusual migrants. It was pretty much the "usual suspects" but still worth the visit.

The Eared Grebe are a common resident at the lake.

There were several Northern Shovelers in eclipse plumage feeding among the ubiquitous gulls.

If I have correctly identified this guy it is a new one for me.
I don't know what this bird is, probably a female finch, but it sure is enjoying those brine flies.

It was a pretty good day at this inland sea. More salty than the ocean, the only creatures that live in Mono lake are brine shrimp and an abundance of brine flies at the edge.

They may be the usual suspects for you - but my life list would take a bit of a boost if I saw these birds!
Managed to get an afternoon off by starting very early in the morning.

It's a strange and eerie landscape, but so lovely in its own special way and obviously great for birding.
