June Lake Sign

Signs indicating points of historic interest are not uncommon, they are seen frequently through California and other parts of the Nation.
This one on the June Lake Loop in the Eastern Sierra is rather unique, incorporating as it does, parts of an old slot machine.
A little closer view makes it easier to read.

I love the story.

I wonder if you could troll the lake with a magnet to find them? I bet I'm not the first guy to think of that.

With so much Civil War history around these parts, we see the brown signs like this every time we leave the house. They are everywhere. Love the slot machine above the historical marker. genie

That is such a fascinating bit of history...amazing to me that hard working people would have been so anxious to gamble away their money.

I'd just about as soon gamble on finding a machine at the bottom of a cold lake as I would pull the handle on one in a casino. (Meaning, I'd rather not do either one ;>)!) (I'm usually not all that prudish ..it's just that I don't get gambling at all!)

I think this would have to be the first legend I have ever heard about a slot machine! What a great story and clever signage!
