Castor Canadensis

Again I went hunting the river otter and again I found a different aquatic mammal than the one I was looking for.
I though I had him this time, from a distance it was hard to tell.
Then a loud slap and a splash told me that it was not the otter.
A beaver came swimming up along the row of willows.  They make a snuffling sound as they swim, they sound a bit like a rooting pig.
They've been doing quite a job on the willows, before long there will be none left.

This is some of what I have seen in my part of our world last week.  To see more views from around our world go to Our World, Tuesday, hosted for us by Arija, Gattina, Lady Fi, Sylvia and Sandy.

What an encounter, and you captured it well! I have plenty of beaver ponds near me, but I rarely see the beavers.

Cool. I have never seen one face to face, but have seen evidence of their presence. Stop by and see my swans. It was one occasion when I wished I had your long lens--except when I would have to carry it around.

They are dreadfully curious creatures too. I bet that this one was just as interested in you. I am surprised he did not swim up close to stare from under the water.

You have the most interesting world ! Even when you don't find what you want to find. Nice shot of the beaver -- they really can get carried away though can't they!
