Yosemite—My World

Everyone has seen the icons of Yosemite, Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, El Capitan.  There is more to this place.  In early spring the dogwood blooms under the towering pines and cedars.

At Bridal Veil Falls, turn your back to that beauty and look to the east shoulder of El Capitan.  There you will see Horse Tail Fall only during spring run off.

At the same place, look to your left to see what is actually the tallest fall in Yosemite.  Since Ribbon Fall only flows in spring it doesn’t get that honor officially.

It’s ok to be inspired by Yosemite Falls but don’t overlook the majestic cliffs to the right.

Pull your eyes from Half Dome and appreciate the other domes above the Valley.

Don’t forget the meadows.  This view to the west was one I especially appreciated.  Usually there is so much air pollution  coming into the valley from the San Joaquin that the sky and granite are washed with a gray haze.

Don’t be like me, always rushing around to see the next view, get the next picture.  Emulate this woman and her dog, just enjoy being in the place, in the moment.  Enjoy the grandeur and the peace of Yosemite.

Martha, You visited Yosemite at a magical time and were graced with perfect weather. Those spring falls are a sight! It's snowing today in Breckenridge. We leave tomorrow - CA or Bust! See you soon.

Oh Martha,

This was one of my favorite vacation destinations as a child. I have been wanting to return to bring my husband someday.

that meadow in spring is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life. it's green and full of life and a little misty from the falls. i love yosemite and this post reminded me that i haven't done my yearly trek to see it yet.

I love that place! And, I was just there in late March and am longing to return all ready...I would love to see the dogwoods in bloom, something I haven't seen in the past. I am sure the falls are even more thunderous now than when I was there...and, they were very amazing then. You really got good shots of North Dome and Washington Column with a rich blue sky above. Beautiful, Martha!

Wonderful post Martha -- I'm glad you did rush around so that you could share all of those views with us; but maybe next time you go you can be more like the lady in your picture! You could just show us the same pictures again -- I'd never get tired of them.

We were lucky to go to Yosemite in April one year so that we could see Ribbon Falls. Spring is definitely the time to go there.
