Shadows in a Sculpture Garden

It was mid-day when we spotted these cairns and other constructs near Mirror Lake in Yosemite last week.
It wasn't the best time of day for shadows but I did manage to find a few.
I have no idea who made them or why; everyone who spotted them seem to enjoy them.
There are more shadows to be found at Hey Harriet, sponsored for us by Tracy in Brisbane.

Very interesting and amusing shadows - they look as though anyone might join in and add their own formations! (Hope it's cooler for you soon.)

Often we don't associate rocks with artistic endevours. Ah, but some of us with little imaginations don't see that by arranging the rocks in many ways, we can evoke a shape of something familiar. The vision of an artist gives us so many shapes here to enjoy...

What great shadows..You know, in Hawaii they stack the rocks on beaches and different places..just like your picture. Not sure why..I know in Jewish cementaries they would leave a rock on the tombstone when they visited..Didn't I take off on stacking rocks?..Anyway, all are lovely shadows..Happy SSS.

That last cairn is wonderful - I like to see them marking the trails. I was wondering if you were going to the cabin? I'm waiting to see if all your snow is melted!

They are delightful! I've never tried to build one, but it seems it would be fun choosing and balancing the rocks. The last one is pretty impressive with the slanty rock toward to top.

I really like coming upon sculptures when I hike. These are cool. I hope no one destroys them but if they are ruined at least you have photos of them.

It is said that Bigfoot will leave a pile of stones to mark trails...what if...ha!

Beautiful shots of a magical wonderland, lucky girl!

A Ranger I met in Death Valley called this geologic graffiti. But it looks cool to me.

@ Gaelyn
If it were to sprout all over the park I would agree that it amounts to graffiti. As long as folks are reasonable and confine it to one or two areas it does look cool.

Great effort and beauty. I am liking the term used by Gaelyn, geologic graffiti.
