When thunderstorms brew over the Sierra we can often see them peeking over the ridge. A few days ago they rose higher than usual, creeping farther west over the foothills and catching the glow of the setting sun.
I try to be alert for sunset, to see how the clouds will position themselves and play in the evening light.
Check out more skies at Sky Watch Friday, hosted for us by Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Fishing Guy and Sylvia.

Wish you a nice weekend:-)
Really a spectacular anvil shot! I love the structure and color. What a beautiful setting for it, too.
As for shooting fireworks... steady hand... and lots of bad shots.

Fantastic sunset! I like how the shadow towards the center of the cloud makes it look more sculptural.
Magic, Martha! Pure magic.
that color is brilliant.
Great picture of an awesome dramatic display of nature's power.
What a beautiful capture! Love the colour.
Gorgeous coral-colored clouds, Martha! Great capture. I love how sometimes clouds get hung up on the Sierras and then occcasionally give us a sprinkle in the summertime. Keep cool this weekend!
The energy felt must have been great. Beautiful indeed. Much needed from within this city. Please have you all a great Friday.

Martha - lucky you! I enlarged the shot - those peachy clouds are on a roll!
That is one awesomely colored cloud bank! How nice to get a view above the Sierras.
Your picture of the Sierras bring back wonderful memories of camping there as a child. I love how thunderheads form over the mountains :-)
Love the colors in the clouds. Beautiful capture.
A awesome bank of clouds...great capture of the color they took on with the setting sun.
Looks like thunderstorms of fire rollin' in!

Beautiful Martha! I don't seem to be able to catch a sunset or sunrise here lately -- just plain blue skies (not that I'm complaining, but they do make rather boring pictures). Thank you for sharing your beautiful rosy sunsets! Great picture.
