Windy Falls

John Muir wrote of hiking behind Yosemite Falls when the wind had blown it away from the cliff.  The wind stopped and he was afraid that he would be stuck there as no one could survive the pounding water.  The wind again blew a clear path for him and he was safe.  I thought of that story as we watched the wind playing with the falls last week.
Our son Eric and his family had come to the cabin for the holiday and we went down into the valley so they could see the falls running almost full.  Then grandson Michael and I both came down with colds and we all left the mountains earlier than anticipated.

You can find more watery sights at Watery Wednesday, hosted for us by 2sweetnsaxy.

John Muir did some rather crazy yet awesome things out in nature. Like hanging onto the top of a tree in a storm, and this. Beautiful falls.

That is some blowing water there!
I like how you can see the little falls behind with the big one shifted by the wind

I'm so sorry you had to leave the mountains earlier than you would have liked. Darn colds. The water fall is a stunner! The Muir tory sent chills through my body. He sure was one lucky guy!

Fascinating energy in the falls as their waters are swept by the wind! Wonderful photo!

John Muir was a hero and people should read and listen to him. It would have been adventure enough for me to be there with you on that windy day! Beautiful picture. Hope you and Michael are better.

I like the story and your photo of the blowing falls, Martha. I hope both you and Michael are feeling better (and that Jules hasn't come down with the cold bug!).

And to think John Muir explored Alaska too. That man got around!

I don't think I would be brave enough to go behind the falls, but oh my what an adventure that would have been. This photo is truly magnificent. Sorry you and your grandson came down with a cold which cut your time up there short. Hope it didn't hang around for too long.
