Reflections on Day Two of our Alaska Adventure

On day two I found an abundance of reflections.
The plan was to kayak across the lagoon and hike to the toe of the glacier.  In spite of the weather, that is what we did, the guide, a fellow traveler and I.
Along the way we passed several kettle ponds.  These were formed when large pieces of ice calved off retreating glaciers, were surrounded by sediment and later melted.
Rushes grew in many of the ponds, it's hard to see where the rush ends and the reflection begins.
The weather hadn't improved when we reached the toe of the glacier.
I enjoyed seeing the reflection of the ice in the water.
Nearby was a stream and wetland with a lovely area of flowers.

We enjoyed a quick view of the flowers and headed back.  It was starting to rain.  We were dressed for the weather and not uncomfortable.

You can find more images to reflect on at Weekend Reflections, hosted by James at Newtown Area Photo

Spectacular photos, Martha! Even better when enlarged. The ice has a beauty all its own. Great reflections too!

These are awesome captures Martha! I really like the rushes. Seems unusual to see wildflowers growing next to a glacier. I MUST get to Alaska.

These are all so beautiful--those rushes!--and very cooling to this overheated desert-dweller. So glad you are sharing your experiences.

Hard to believe flowers grow in those conditions, but they are and they are lovely! Great reflections!

Awesome! Blue "ice" are incredible! Even the flora is very amazing despite the cooler weather.

Nice reflection photos you have shared.

Your 4th and 5th photos looks like the ones I have taken here in New Zealand.

You are right about the reeds. They look like one, not of reflection.

Thanks for link of kettle ponds.

It looks very beautiful and rather mysterious in the mist. The reeds make an interesting pattern. And who knew that ice was that lovely blue?

I just love the second pic. Looking at it I feel a little lost, unable to get where is up and what is ground... Very nice pictures, thank you so much for the sharing.

Great shots from your trip even if the skies were gray. Boy that water must have been incredibly still to get such perfect reflections!
