Alabama Hills and Mt. Whitney

Morning and the clouds were already building over the Sierra Nevada.
If the boulder strewn Alabama Hills look familiar it may be because they were used as a location for many movies.
Mt. Whitney seen from the Alabama hills. Not sure which peak it is?
Here is a close up. Mt. Whitney is the triangular peak in the center.

This is barren, rugged country, but beautiful none-the-less.

Beautiful views. You were quite high up. It's funny; this scenery reminds me of some of the Andean views I saw in Peru!

You certainly left me with a lot to catchup on... green herons are a favorite, we've seen them in Florida. Wonderful sky/mountain shots!!

Hi Martha, I also have my Alabama Hills post, but we walked all the way to the Arch. I should have read more about it before we went so we could capture different shapes. Definitely going back in the Fall.

Some of the comments above about the landscape in the Valley being like what Peter Jackson got on film in LOTR are spot-on. I like watching the movies almost as much for the New Zealand version of basin and range as I do for the stories. These are great shots, Martha. The place is so photogenic that it's hard not to get good pictures, but yours are definitely several notches above even some of the postcard shots you can buy down at the Visitor's Center.
