Hiking Palm Canyon—My World

Another hike in Anza-Borrego is the hike from the campground up Palm Canyon to the oasis.

stream

The trail follows the stream up canyon.  There was quite a bit of water in the upper portions.  Down stream the thirsty gravel had left only puddles.

Brittlebush

There was brittlebush and ocotillo in the lower, drier portions of the trail.

Bever tail

We were a little to early to see this Beavertail in bloom.

globe mallow

This Desert Mallow was blooming though.

Mojave gold poppy

Arizona Lupin

There was quite a variety of flowers in the canyon.  I think these are Mojave Gold Poppy and Arizona Lupine.  There are so many similar varieties that I could easily be mistaken.Oasis 1

Some lovely cascades as we approach the end.

Oasis 2

And then the palm oasis.  The skirts of old leaves protect the trunk from the harsh summer heat.  It was an easy hike except for some places where the trail and bridge had been washed out.

Find more views of the world at My World Tuesday, hosted for us by Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Fishing Guy and Sylvia.

What a great hike in such a gorgeous place! Love your photos of the flowers, the palm trees with their "skirts" and the gorgeous cascade! What a great day that had to have been! Have to admit that I'm a bit envious! Have a great week Martha!

I am very impressed with the Beaver Tail cacti. . . even if it is not in bloom!

That last photo of the palm oasis is spectacular. Never seen anything like it!

What an adventure. The flowers were great but the pic of the bunched up palm trees was wonderful.

Martha - fabulous hike! I hope you'll get a picture of an ocatillio when it blossoms. We've been on the desert a lot, but only managed once to see that plant bloom.

thanks for sharing -- all of the pictures are great!

It's a perfect time of the year to go hiking in the desert. The wildflowers are out and it's not too hot yet. Lovely shots. That palm oasis is amazing. The cluster of trees almost looks like some kind of creatures from outer space!! Thanks for your visit to my blog.

Loved hiking with you and seeing the desert in bloom, Martha. It's snowing again in Denver - we're under a winter storm warning (even though it's spring!). Your photos make me excited for our CA trip!

I so much enjoyed your wonderful photos in this post (the previous one too) and never cease to be amazed at the beauty of the desert in Springtime when water is present. Thanks for taking us along on your walks, virtually.
